Amorphous graphite is the most abundant type of graphite, with smaller scales and low crystallinity. It is used to produce low-priced products and is the lowest-priced type of graphite; It is mainly contained in Türkiye, China, Europe, Mexico, and the United States.


Amorphous graphite is widely used in casting coatings, oilfield drilling, battery carbon rods, steel, casting materials, refractory materials, dyes, fuels, electrode paste, as well as as as as ingredients for pencils, welding rods, batteries, graphite emulsions, desulfurizers, anti-corrosion and anti slip agents, smelting carburetors, ingot protection slag, graphite bearings, and other products. The most common uses of it are three: first, to mix a certain amount of soil (mainly composed of silica) and press it into a pencil lead; The second is as a lubricant for some mechanical devices or industrial production; Thirdly, it serves as an electrode for electrolysis, electroplating, or storage batteries; In addition, it is also a raw material for the artificial production of various other allotropes, such as football olefins, diamonds, and carbon nanotubes.


When used as a carburizing agent, steel mills refer to it as Graphite balls or Amorphous graphite carburizing agents during procurement. 50% of steel companies generally use soil graphite with content of C ≥ 80%, while other manufacturers C: 83, 85, and 86% have applications. The particle sizes used are more diverse, with spherical shapes ranging from 10-30mm to 20-50mm, as well as granular materials ranging from 1-3mm, 1-5mm, 3-6mm, and 3-15mm. The monthly procurement volume is also adjusted according to the specific production needs, with high monthly usage of over 100 tons and low usage of 5 tons and 10 tons. However, most steel companies do not use earthy graphite as a carburetor. It is understood that earthy graphite emits strong smoke during the steelmaking process, has low carbon content, and does not have a significant price advantage.
